Training camps around the NFL are set to begin this week and teams are wondering if some of their starters will be ready. According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, it's uncertain if Sony Michel will be able to practice with the New England Patriots at the start of training camp.

Back in May, Michel underwent foot surgery and there were reports that he could begin training camp on the PUP list. However, despite the reports, Michel uttered that his goal was to be healthy in time for training camp. To be fair though, Michel never guaranteed to be ready for the beginning of training camp with the Patriots.

Last season, Michel finished with 912 yards on 247 attempts and seven touchdowns. Besides touchdowns, the former No. 31 pick saw a drop-off in nearly every statistical category from the previous season in 2019.

Nevertheless, with New England getting David Andrews back and retaining Joe Thuney, Michel could get back on track in 2020. Also, the addition of Cam Newton could create more opportunities in the Patriots' running game in the upcoming season.

If Michel isn't able to give it a go at training camp, New England is loaded at the running back position. In all likeliness, James White, Damien Harris, and Rex Burkhead could see more time on the field. Seeing that Harris was a third-round pick a season ago, he could get the green light to see more snaps with the starters to kick off training camp.

Given the circumstances of the offseason, the Patriots are likely going to take a cautious approach with Michel. Therefore, until he proves he is one-hundred percent healthy, Michel may not be involved much in training camp.
