Longtime Carolina Panthers quarterback and former league MVP Cam Newton still does not have his next NFL home as the month of June is now upon us. With the Panthers previously releasing the oft-injured Newton earlier this offseason, the former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick has continued to be linked for a handful of teams with the heralded New England Patriots always seeming to pop up in the conversation.

Because Newton needs a new home and the Patriots might very well need a new quarterback with longtime New England signal-caller Tom Brady now officially a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the connection between these two sides is quite obvious. However, it remains to be seen as to whether or not longtime Patriots head coach Bill Belichick ultimately pulls the trigger en route to signing Newton, via Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal.

With Brady now in Tampa Bay, the Patriots appear more than ready to turn things over to soon-to-be second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham with journeyman backup Brian Hoyer presently behind him on the depth chart. Even though, as it stands today, that Stidham could become the team's starter under center in 2020-21, it is hard to argue with bringing a veteran like Newton on board to either lead the way or help create some additional competition.

If not for his lingering injury troubles, one could make the argument that Newton would still be in Carolina instead of new Panthers starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who previously served as a backup to New Orleans Saints starter Drew Brees.
