The New England Patriots will take on the New York Giants during Week 6’s Thursday Night Football, but the team will reportedly be without another of their offensive weapons, as running back Rex Burkhead is not expected to play on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The news comes just a few hours before kickoff on Thursday, and a day after Phillip Dorsett was already ruled out for the contest. Burkhead will be missing his second straight game, and will likely continue to rehab and recovery from a foot injury that’s ailed him for the past two weeks. Considering the short week for the Patriots, it’s likely that the team just didn’t want to put any more pressure on Burkhead.

Burkhead has appeared in four games this season for the Patriots, rushing for 124 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries to go along with 14 receptions for 117 yards. He has also been used in a special teams role as well, where he's received 59 snaps, but has seen his workload drop a bit thanks to the team using Sony Michel and James White more and more.

With Burkhead now out, it does leave the Patriots a bit shorthanded on offense, especially with Dorsett also out. However, the Patriots are still likely to be the overwhelming favorites in the contest, as they enter the game as one of the only two undefeated teams left in the league, and are sporting a defense that looks to be one of the best the NFL has seen in recent years.
