The New England Patriots aren't used to having great running backs. Sure, there was Corey Dillon, but outside of him, the Patriots haven't really had any elite halfbacks during the Tom Brady era.

But that seems to be changing.

Sony Michel had a terrific rookie campaign for New England this past season, rushing for 931 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He was also huge in the playoffs, totaling 336 yards and a whopping six scores on the ground while punching in the only touchdown of the Super Bowl.

Fellow Pats running back Rex Burkhead loves Michel's potential and sees big things in his future.

“He’s just a guy who doesn’t say much,” said Burkhead, according to Ryan Hannable of WEEI. “He comes in every single day ready to work and understanding that the sky’s the limit for him. He had a great year last year, and [I’m] excited to see what he can keep doing.”

Michel, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the Patriots in the first round (31st pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

As for what we can expect from Michel in his second season?

Burkhead thinks his teammate will learn much more quickly.

“I think that’s probably the biggest thing you’ll see from a lot of guys Year 1 to Year 2,” Burkhead said. “Even with me in this system, I feel like I started to pick up things quicker.”

One thing is for sure: the Patriots finally have a really good running back.
