Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has left his mark on the team's most recent Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Gronkowski dented the teams Super Bowl LIII Trophy during the Boston Red Sox's home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 9, per 247Sports.com's Tyler  Sullivan.

In a video released by the Patriots on Wednesday, the team reveals that Gronkowski actually put a dent in New England's Lombardi Trophy from Super Bowl LIII.

As the group of Patriots were gearing up to make their appearance at Fenway Park for the Red Sox home opener and celebrate their most recent championship, Julian Edelman, Stephon Gilmore, and Gronkowski all warmed up before they threw out the first pitch.

After they were done, Gronkowski jumped in the batters box, Lombardi Trophy in hand.

That was when disaster struck. Gronkowski used the Lombardi Trophy as a bat. Super Bowl LIII MVP and wide receiver Julian Edelman acted as the pitcher.

Instead of taking a swing at the ball, Gronk bunted. The video blacks out at that moment when the ball makes contact with the trophy. Moments later, it reveals a baseball-sized dent.

It seems the Patriots won't fix the dent any time soon.

New England executive vice president of media relations Stacey James told ESPN's Mike Reiss on Wednesday, “We're going to keep the dent and tell the story.”

Patriots backup quarterback Brian Hoyer chimed in on Gronkowski's hilarious moment.

“Rob's parting gift to the organization was leaving his mark on his last Super Bowl Trophy,” Hoyer told Patriots.com (via ESPN) on Wednesday.

Gronkowski, a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer, retired from the NFL after nine seasons on March 25. He hangs up his cleats after three Super Bowl rings, five Pro Bowl nods, and four First-Team All-Pro nominations.
