In what will likely come to the shock of no one, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is really excited to play in Mexico against the Oakland Raiders.

“It's always cool to change up the atmosphere,” Gronkowski said during his media availability. “It always gets you excited heading into a new atmosphere not knowing what to expect exactly, so it's going to be something different. It's going to be something fun.”

Are we allowed to make jokes about the idea that Rob Gronkowski might be more excited to be in Mexico for things not related to football? I mean, we should be able to do that.

The gifted tight end and the Patriots will square off against the Oakland Raiders at Mexico City's legendary venue Estadio Azteca on Sunday. It is actually a pretty big deal for the franchises as well as the National Football League. For the latter, as it continues to try to make a mostly domestic game go international, this is a good way to attempt to spread football to other countries.

Will it work? Eh. While the games over in London do draw big crowds, with a pretty neat feel to them, it isn't like those folk have adopted football as a sport they love to consume.

Really, if we are being bluntly honest, these games have become closer to being events and spectacles than anything that is actually growing the sport on an international level.

Then again, the world has yet to be introduced to this polar bear catching footballs. Maybe Gronk can change history forever this weekend.
