The New England Patriots have been hobbled by injury as of late. Tight end Rob Gronkowski is the latest to appear on the injury report.

Gronkowski is certainly no stranger to dealing with injuries. According to Nora Princiotti of the Boston Globe, he is currently nursing ankle and back issues:

Cordarrelle Patterson missed practice because of an illness. Rob Gronkowski (ankle/back) is back on the injury report. He was limited along with Brandon King (knee).

Any update like this was the last thing the Patriots needed. The timing could not be any worse after wide receiver Josh Gordon announced that he will be stepping away from football to get his personal affairs in order.

With Gordon out for the rest of the season, the Patriots cannot afford to lose any more pieces of their receiving corps. It is no secret that their offense has been in a state of flux throughout the year. It will be even more difficult for them to get back on track amidst all their recent injuries.

Meanwhile, Gronkowski's status hardly comes as any surprise. He has been dealing with injuries throughout the course of the 2018 campaign. As a result, he has largely failed to produce his usual spectacular numbers.

Of course, the offense as a whole has experienced a bit of a downtick in production this season. Regardless, having Gronkowski in the lineup will be crucial for the Patriots as they start gearing up for the postseason. They should still be able to manage a favorable Week 16 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
