New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had a shot at adding $2.5 million to his income this season if he will get named into the Associated Press’ All-Pro team later this week, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Gronkowski has already satisfied a requirement to get a $4.5 million bonus when he reached the 1,000 receiving-yard mark, but an AP All-Pro nod would boost Gronkowski’s career earnings and give him some more spending power whenever he throws a party.

The 28-year-old would not have needed to wait for the result of his AP All-Pro fate to cash in $2.5 million if he managed to either collect 80 receptions or 1,200 receiving yards in the regular season, which he both failed to do. Gronkowski finished the 2017 campaign with 69 catches and 1,084 receiving yards.

Despite playing 58 offensive snaps in last Sunday’s 26-6 home win over the New York Jets, Gronk failed to get a single catch. He wasn’t even targeted at all by either Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer. Still, the 11 catches he needed in that game to unlock the lucrative bonus was a bit improbable to get.

Hopefully, for Gronkowski, he will beat out Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for a place in the All-Pro unit. Otherwise, he is about to have experience perhaps almost the same financial heartbreak that happened to Baltimore Ravens safety Eric Weddle.
