New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is known as a guy who likes to party, but I’m sure he does not enjoy taking beer cans to the face in the process.
Well, that is exactly what happened during the Patriots’ championship parade on Tuesday.
Gronkowski appeared on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” to explain the incident:
“I move back a little, I’m just chilling, looking and pop! You see that?” he said, pointing to a scar next to his left eye (via Chuck Schilken of the Los Angeles Times). “Full beer can right to the face. I was bleeding all over on the parade, on the duck boat.”
Fans had been tossing containers of alcohol to the players, but this one happened to make a beeline right toward Gronkowski’s face.
Naturally, the 29-year-old did not mind:
“That parade is hands-down the best party,” added Gronkowski. “It’s the best experience anyone can go through.”
Gronkowski has now participated in three Super Bowl parades.
The five-time Pro Bowler hauled in six receptions for 87 yards during the Patriots’ Super Bowl win over the Los Angeles Rams, including a massive fourth-quarter grab in which he laid out to snare a Tom Brady pass near the end zone, setting up Sony Michel for the game’s first touchdown.
On the season overall, Rob Gronkowski, who looked like a mere shell of himself most of the way, caught 47 passes for 682 yards and three scores. But, in the playoffs, Gronk rose to the occasion, just like all great players do.
