Retired New England Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich knows what Julian Edelman is going through. The ex-Pat also got popped for PEDs back in 2016. And like another former Patriot, Rodney Harrison, Ninkovich has offered some advice for his former teammate.

Ninkovich pointed out the obvious, which is not to do the same mistake again. He notes that multiple offenders won’t get the benefit of the doubt and can’t get back that sort of trust from people. Furthermore, he told Edelman to consider the bigger picture of his situation.

“I just said it’s not the end of the world,” said Ninkovich, per Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. “Yeah, it sucks. It’s not what you want to deal with at this point in your career. When I was going through it, I had gone through all these emotions of what people were going to think of me, and at the end of the day, the people that love you, and that support you, it doesn’t matter. If you’re playing football, when you’re done playing football, those people will still be there.”

Ninkovich also believes that Edelman’s strong mental make-up should allow him to move on from this setback.

The Patriots will certainly be hoping Ninkovich is right and that Edelman will be back to his best once he returns from his four-game ban. He’s Tom Brady’s favorite target, not to mention the Patriots’ most reliable weapon in a receiving corps that still has a couple of question marks heading into this season.
