In the last few months, there has been some chatter around former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick possibly getting another chance to rekindle his career with a shot to play in the league this season.

This had seen some chatter build up for Kaepernick possibly drawing some interest from the New England Patriots as he lawyer had indirectly referenced it earlier this year. With that in mind, Patriots owner Robert Kraft didn't exactly shoot that scenario down as his response gave life that situation being factual, according to Devin Gordon of the New York Times.

One unconfirmed media report in mid-September claimed that his team had engaged in discussions with Mr. Kaepernick, ultimately fruitless, to back up quarterback Tom Brady. In the interview, Mr. Kraft called the report a “rumor” that had originated with a lawyer in Kaepernick’s camp, but when asked if that meant the report was untrue, he paused for three seconds. “I’m done talking about it,” he said finally.

The manner in which Kraft chose to respond shows that there some credence to the team at least expressing interest in bringing him aboard at some point in time. The reasoning as to why it may have fallen apart isn't known, but it looks like that opportunity was there.

Kaepernick has remained out of the league since the end of the 2016 season as he has drawn some interest in the last two years but nothing has truly come to fruition. Instead, the 31-year-old has remained on the open market with the clear intent on getting another shot to continue his NFL career at some point in time.

The Patriots could get back into the picture at some point in time in the future, but it is quite intriguing that they could have been a realistic landing spot for Kaepernick.
