With the NFL offseason in full swing, each franchise is searching for different ways to improve their rosters. The New England Patriots have been quite busy so far, but they might not be done yet, as star cornerback, Stephon Gilmore's name has been swimming around the rumor mill.

Gilmore has been a solid cornerback throughout his career, but last season was a down year. Even so, he's still considered to be one of the best in the league. Owner Robert Kraft was asked during a conference on Wednesday about Gilmore's future with the franchise, per Ryan Hannable.

“Look, we’re lucky to have Stephon Gilmore,” the Patriots owner said. “He’s a tremendous player for us, a great person. I personally had the opportunity to go to the Holy Land with he and his bride and he’s just so gifted and he’s under contract with us. We’ll see what happens.”

Gilmore's future is up in the air, as according to Spotrac, Gilmore is due to hit free agency in 2022. Being in the final year of his contract, Gilmore could be a valuable trade piece for the Patriots, as they're rebuilding the team since Tom Brady's departure.

However, Stephen Gilmore has made a name for himself while in New England, earning a Defensive Player of the Year award in 2019. That year, Gilmore went off, totaling 53 tackles, 20 pass deflections, and six interceptions. He's one of the best defensive players in the league when he's healthy.

Based on Kraft's comments though, it sounds like he and Gilmore have built a close relationship over the last few years. Keep a close eye on the Patriots organization, as something is bound to happen with Stephon Gilmore before the start of the regular season.
