The NFL has decided to reinstate Josh Gordon, paving the way for his return to the New England Patriots. After the league made their decision, they made a formal statement in support of the troubled wide receiver.

“We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally,” Goodell said in a statement. “Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him.”

Since entering the league in 2012, Gordon has continually had problems that have stemmed from off-the-field issues. Most recently, the playmaking wideout was suspended indefinitely by the NFL last December.

As a result, the receiver said he was going to take a break from football and focus on his mental health. The receiver seems to be in better condition mentally now after being given another chance to play in the NFL.

In his career, Gordon missed the 2015 and 2016 seasons due to violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Then, last year, the big-play wide receiver was traded to New England in hopes to start fresh.

The Patriots believe they can help Gordon get on the right track and make something of his career. We'll get to see what type of shape he is in when he can report to the team's facility on Sunday.

After joining the Patriots last year, Gordon had 40 receptions for 720 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games. Bill Belichick is hoping for similar production from Gordon as he rejoins the team ahead of the regular season. Above all, we're all hoping that this time will be the time that Gordon turns things around.
