The New England Patriots have had their fair share of running back woes, but Sony Michel has shown that he is the solution. Michel has really come into his own in the past few weeks. He  and Rex Burkhead were injured to start the season, but his full recovery has had a tremendous impact on his team's success. He credits his offensive line for helping him produce early on in his NFL career.

“Everything was the O-line,” Michel told WEII after their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. “There was holes. It was probably hard [to see] from you guys’ perspective, but there was holes down there. But, yes, we made some plays, but we left yards out there. There were some that I thought could have been even bigger plays, but that’s football.”

The Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in a Week 6 nail-biter. Sony Michel had 24 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns. These numbers are unheard of for a Patriots running back. They're a pass-dominant team that seldom uses their backs in a traditional way. However, many expected this would change when they selected Michel with the No. 31 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Patriots hadn't drafted a first-round running back since Laurence Maroney in 2006.

“I just expected when I got drafted to the Patriots to win football games,” Michel continued. “It’s not really about me. It’s about this team. It’s about, ‘what can I do to help this team?’ If it’s 100 yards, it’s 100 yards. If it’s 2 yards, it’s 2 yards.”

He's in a position where he can grow while being surrounded by winners. The Georgia product lucked out, so he'll try to make the most of his amazing situation.
