New England Patriots running back Sony Michel's time on the PUP list was short-lived. On Saturday Patriots director of player personnel, Nick Caserio announced that Michel had been cleared and would be returning to practice immediately.

Michel underwent a knee scope earlier this offseason which was considered very minor. Michel did not participate in the team's minicamp in June while recovering. The former Georgia Bulldog was present for each of the teams first two practices but did not participate with the full team. He worked out with other injured players on a different field while the rest of the team practiced.

Saturday will be the Patriots first practice with pads and it's expected that Michel should be participating in most of the drills.

It is good news for the Patriots that Michel is back because he is one of the keys for the team if they want to make another run at a Super Bowl.

Last season he was sold during the regular season as a rookie but really started to shine once the postseason rolled around. In three games during the playoffs, he rushed for 336 yards and scored six touchdowns.

Outside of Michel, one of the big battles during camp for the Patriots is at running back. The team has James White, Rex Burkhead and James Develin on the roster and also drafted former Alabama standout Damien Harris in the third round.

It will be Michel who will probably take a bulk of the carries this season but the Patriots love to rotate backs so they need everyone to be healthy.
