Aaron Donald was announced as a member of the 99 club on Madden 21 on Wednesday and he'll be joined by another defensive player. After a phenomenal season with the New England Patriots in 2019, Stephon Gilmore joins Donald in the 99 club on Madden 21.

Besides Gilmore sharing the news, New England's official Twitter account also got in on the action.

Since joining the Patriots in 2017, Stephon Gilmore has gotten more recognition as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. But just this past season, Gilmore was absolutely dominant at a position that's gotten tougher to play in today's league.

Altogether, in 16 starts, the former first-round pick tied his career-high in pass breakups with 20 of them in 2019. In addition to that, Gilmore would tally six interceptions, with two of them resulting in touchdowns. As a result of his efforts in 2019, Gilmore would be selected as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year.

Of course, some fans are going to jokingly say that DeVante Parker's performance versus Gilmore in Week 17 should have prevented Gilmore from being a 99 overall. After being shut out on seven targets in their first meeting, Parker would record eight receptions for 137 yards on Gilmore to close out the season.

While Parker bested Stephon Gilmore once, the lockdown cornerback still put together a remarkable campaign a year ago. Therefore, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's one of the highest-rated players in Madden 21.

In recent days, some players have been disappointed in their ratings in the upcoming Madden video game. Seeing that he's a 99 overall, Gilmore likely won't have any complaints on his rating.
