The New England Patriots opted to give cornerback Stephon Gilmore a pay raise in response to the lucrative deal that was recently signed by Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The increase in salary should provide the reigning Defensive Player of the Year some security amid his current deal.

While he is admittedly happy with the result, Gilmore has shifted his focus toward the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, per Mac Cerullo of CNHI:

“It's a great accomplishment but it's behind me now. My focus is on Seattle now.

Gilmore's comments are indicative of the same no-nonsense approach taken by head coach Bill Belichick any time someone in New England makes headlines. There is no question that he is more than deserving of the raise given how he has outperformed his current contract.

Gilmore received a $5 million pay raise from the Patriots for the 2020 NFL season. However, they also reduced his salary for the 2021 campaign by $4.5 million as a result. Since he is slated to receive another lucrative pay day in the near future, it is safe to assume that he could look to renegotiate a new deal for next season in order to make sure he is receiving his due and proper.

Of course, it remains to be seen if another raise is in the books for the Patriots next season. After all, reports have already surfaced that the team had considered trading him on at least two occasions during the offseason. Their efforts to front-load his contract for this season indicates that Gilmore's time with the team could be coming to an end.
