New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore has had nothing but success since coming into the NFL, but he knows this is a “what can you do for me now?” league. What happened last season doesn't matter. Gilmore told Jeff Howe of The Athletic that he knows how important it is to start over each year. He tries to take that approach coming into each new season.

“I try to take the approach that it starts over every year, starting with offseason workouts, OTAs, minicamp,” Gilmore said. “It starts over. You’ve got to prove yourself every year. A lot of people don’t care about what happened last year. If you can’t do it again this year, it doesn’t matter.”

Stephon Gilmore said the biggest thing in trying to improve is taking it play by play and working on getting better with each thing he does.

“I just try to get better every day. I don’t really try to focus on one thing. I try to focus on my technique and trust my teammates. It’s not easy every day. You’ve got to compete every day, work on your footwork. There’s no particular thing I key on to get better. I just try to focus on every play, try to be smarter and try to get better every day.”

It's a bit scary to think about Stephon Gilmore getting better because of how well he has played in his career, but he is firmly in the prime so there is no reason he can't take another big step forward this year.
