There has been plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. It appears both sides are still in the process of negotiations.

Rumors have started to swirl about Brady's looming departure. According to Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports, he had a meeting with head coach Bill Belichick that can hardly be considered as a productive one:

They talked. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady had a telephone conversation on Tuesday to discuss Brady’s impending free agency.

It wasn’t particularly productive, a source told me.

The report added that while the contents of the meeting are largely unknown, the Patriots coach is operating from a position of power.

How long they talked and whether they got into discussions about money, length of term or any contract details isn’t known. Belichick, according to the source, was all business.

The impression drawn was that Belichick spoke as if Brady was “still under contract.”

Belichick does not have very long to use this tactic since Brady is set to become an unrestricted free agent once the new league year starts on March 18. The Patriots will need to ramp up their efforts in the coming weeks if they hope to keep him off the market.

There will certainly be no shortage of interest for a player of Brady's services if the Patriots allow him to test the waters of free agency. Teams like the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Chargers have been pegged as frontrunners to target him this offseason.
