Despite the fact he only joined Twitter a little more than 11 months ago, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has already become a fan favorite on social media.

Brady threw fans for a loop by posting a cryptic just days before the Super Bowl, which likely sent all of New England into a frenzy given Brady is set to become a free agent in only a few weeks. As it turned out, Brady was merely promoting his partnership with Hulu.

The six-time Super Bowl champion had more jokes on Wednesday. Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has launched a campaign for Brady to remain with the Pats, faux merchandise, and all.

Brady responded to the campaign by asking if the pair plan to make money on “Julian Edelman merchandise,” adding “I assume this all evens out?”

Brady and Edelman have formed a strong bond in New England, though the pair were also involved in a somewhat awkward interaction this past weekend.

Both Patriots stars attended the Syracuse basketball game alongside late-night host Jimmy Fallon. During a brief cameo, Edelman said, “He's staying,” to which Brady responded with a glare and a shake of the head.

Of course, this could all be part of Brady's master plan to re-sign with the Patriots eventually. He has already mastered the art of Internet trolling, after all.

Then again, talks between the two sides do not appear to be leading anywhere. Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported Brady and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spoke on Tuesday, but the conversation “didn't go very well.”

Edelman can lobby for Brady to return as much as he wants. But there is a genuine possibility his best friend will be playing for another team next season.
