In the last few years, New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady has taken a more precise approach to his business ventures away from his NFL career.

According to Johnathan Shieber of Tech Crunch, Brady has partnered up with former NFL star defensive end Michael Strahan and Gotham Chopra to create a new sports media platform called Religion of Sports.

“Called The Religion of Sports, the new startup, which is seeking around $3 million in outside capital, is neither The Players’ Tribune, Derek Jeter’s media platform for athletes to tell their own stories, nor TraceMe, Russell Wilson’s access-focused app for athletes and celebrities.

Instead, Brady, Strahan and Chopra, alongside chief executive Ameeth Sankaran, a former investor with a family office out of Texas and longtime friend of Chopra’s, want to create a multi-platform storytelling business that functions like an old-school studio — dedicated to sports — that tells the best stories in the medium that’s most appropriate for them.”

The Religion of Sports is the same company that produced “Tom vs. Time” series via Facebook that Chopra had directed. This has been a project that has been long in the works between Brady and Chopra for the last couple of years. It looks to be a business that will allow for players to tell their own story through multimedia in a unique way.

Brady's recent documentary provides some insight to just that as it gives the viewer a chance to see the athlete in a much different light away from their respective sport. Although it does share some similarities to The Players' Tribune, it could provide athletes a different platform to express themselves in a way that they couldn't normally do so through their profession.

Things could begin to further take shape with Brady's Facebook documentary setting the stage of what's to come in the near future. Only time will tell if this pan out as successful and entertaining new multi-media platform.
