At age 40, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady continues to dominate the NFL at an incredibly efficient clip. Still, given his age, the organization is starting to be cautious with the future Hall of Famer.

For the second consecutive week, Brady sat out the Patriots' Wednesday practice session as he nurses a sore Achilles. And, for the second straight week, he returned to practice on Thursday, per ProFootballTalk's Josh Alper.

Various local reporters noted that Brady was back on the field with the team today as they prepare for a big AFC East divisional showdown against the rival Buffalo Bills. A win virtually clinches the division title for the Patriots, as they'd take a four-game lead over Buffalo with just four weeks to go.

Despite sitting out last week's Wednesday practice, Brady claimed that he felt fine, and that certainly showed when he threw four touchdown passes in a relatively easy win over the Miami Dolphins. He already has the most touchdown passes in a season by a QB over the age of 40, and along with the Philadelphia Eagles' Carson Wentz, he's right at the top of the NFL MVP conversation.

That's what happens when you have a better passing rating under pressure than any other QB has overall.

Two other Patriots also returned to practice Thursday in Trevor Reilly and LaAdrian Waddle, but wide receiver Chris Hogan sat out once again. Hogan hasn't played since Week 8 when he went down with a shoulder injury, and given his absence today, it's unlikely that his return will come in Week 13.
