Going into the year, many felt the New England Patriots' defense was a question mark, as it struggled throughout much of the 2018 regular season and lost a key member in Trey Flowers over the offseason.

But, as is par for the course when it comes to the Patriots, the defense has proven everyone wrong.

New England currently owns the best defense in the NFL, as it is allowing just 238.4 yards per game. In addition, opponents are averaging only 6.8 points per game against the Pats.

Tom Brady has played with some great defenses over his two decades with the Patriots, but the quarterback feels that this one is the best unit he has ever had the pleasure of joining forces with:

“I mean, look at the stats through five weeks,” Brady said on The Greg Hill Show when asked if the 2019 defense was the best one he has ever played with. “They are very good in the secondary. They have really great players. They have a great rush. Linebackers are so versatile. They are so well-coached. It’s fun to watch. Only five games into the year, I am sure they think they have a lot to prove. It’s fun from the sideline. … They are doing an incredible job. Let’s keep it going.”

New England defeated the Washington Redskins by a score of 33-7 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The only score the Pats allowed in the game was a touchdown run by wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., who broke some tackles and took an end-around 65 yards for the score. It marked just the second offensive touchdown the Patriots' defense has surrendered all season.
