After much speculation about his future over the past few days, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has finally committed to playing in 2018. At least that’s what his agent has done for him.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brady’s agent Don Yee has all but confirmed Brady’s plans to play, not only this year but in the years to come.

“Tom’s intentions have not changed,” Yee said. “He’s consistently said he’ll play beyond this contract and into his mid 40s, or until he feels he isn’t playing at a championship level. I understand the constant speculation, but this is one point he’s been firm about.”

Schefter reported last week that Brady still hadn’t committed to playing in the 2018 season and that there was still a chance he could retire. However, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo came out with another report saying that Brady would play in 2018 and that he was open to discussing a new contract.

Brady still has two years and an average salary of $14 million on his current deal, which is a bargain relative to his production as a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback. However, Yee did not give any indication that Brady's current deal is a significant issue.

Even at 40 years old, Brady continues to play at a high level. He likely won’t be a regular participant during Patriots offseason workouts to work more closely with body coach Alex Guerrero.

“He customizes his preparation to each season in order to maximize his performance,” Yee said. “His training methods are always evolving and getting better. The year he missed the first four games — that month of training on his own was particularly efficient.”

This announcement from Brady's agent should finally put to bed any lingering doubts as to Brady's status in the near future. But while he intends to play on for a couple more years, this likely doesn't change the Patriots' plans to find his potential long-term successor in this week's draft.
