Tom Brady made it official on Tuesday morning that he would not be returning to the New England Patriots next season. According to Michael Giardi of NFL Network, Robert Kraft told him the reason why Brady is leaving New England.

On Monday night, Brady chose to open a dialogue with Kraft on what his future with the Patriots could be. Following a long, heartfelt discussion, the two sides were unable to agree upon a deal that would keep Brady in New England for the rest of his career.

As a result, with Kraft unwilling to pay Brady the money he wants, the 42-year-old quarterback is focused on continuing his career elsewhere. While nothing is official, the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem like the two most likely landing spots for Brady.

For years, Brady took a hometown discount to remain with the Patriots. At the same time, the team would be able to surround him with more talent to build a contending roster. However, as he nears the end of his legendary career, Brady is trying to land a contract that pays him his worth.

Given that, Kraft and the Patriots are unable to compete with the teams that can offer him an excess of $30 million annually. On the other hand, Brady may believe another team gives him a better chance of winning another Super Bowl.

Similar to fans in New England, it is tough for Kraft to part ways with Brady after 20 seasons with the organization. But after both sides agreed it was best to go their separate ways, Kraft is trying to make it clear that Brady wanted to leave.
