Julian Edelman, Sony Michel and the New England Patriots made a loud statement Sunday, taking down the Los Angeles Chargers in Foxboro, 41-28, to book their seemingly annual trip to the AFC Championship Game.

Among the players that played a key role for the Patriots in the victory was Edelman, who, apart from torching the Chargers’ supposedly sturdy defense, made the day even more fun for the Patriots by baptizing rookie teammate Sony Michel with a hilarious nickname: “The Blazin’ Haitian.’

Michael came up huge in the divisional round, smoking Los Angeles’ run defense for 129 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. As a team, New England finished with 155 rushing yards and four touchdowns, with Rex Burkhead supplying the only other rushing score for the team.

As for Edelman, he did his part in moving the chains, as he paced the game with 151 receiving yards on nine catches and 13 targets.

Although Michel is an American, he traces his lineage to Haiti, where his family was from. He grew up to become a star college football player for the Georgia Bulldogs before turning pro in 2018, when he was selected by the Patriots 31st overall.

The Patriots will face the Chiefs in the conference title game next week.
