The New England Patriots have the 23rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Usually, you could narrow down who they could possibly take pretty nicely.

However, this year the Patriots are in need of quite a bit. They could take a quarterback, wide receiver, pass rusher, linebacker and a few other positions if we're being honest.

So what will they take with that first round pick? More importantly, who will they take. We tried to figure that out.

A lot of people believe a quarterback could be in the cards for New England soon, as they look for a replacement for Tom Brady. That being said, many seem to be expecting that next season.

Well, that's where I'm going with this.

Apparently there are reports that head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots believe in Jarrett Stidham. They selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and are supposedly ready to go to war with him.

Now I know last season doesn't really count. Stidham barely appeared, throwing just four passes (2-for-4 for 14 yards and an interception). That being said, let's also not pretend like that's getting anyone excited.

This very well could be New England making the most out of the situation they have. We've heard teams throw their support behind someone just to change direction before. Remember the New York Giants signing Odell Beckham Jr. to a massive contract and talking about how he wasn't going anywhere, just to trade him before the next season even started?

And that was with one of the best wide receivers in football. Now we're talking about a fourth-round quarterback who hasn't done anything to impress yet.

So why not try and fix that this draft. Especially considering Jordan Love could definitely still be available at No. 23.

Now, Love is seen as a bit of a project. However, he could be the perfect type of quarterback for Belichick to mold.

Love is 21 and has incredible arm talent. He's extremely raw though, which means Belichick can lean him in all the right directions.

There are two big arguments that could be made for this. First is free agency. There are a few quarterbacks (Cam Newton and Jameis Winston for example) that could fit nicely with the Patriots. If they haven't worked anything out with them yet though, they likely don't plan on it.

Second, Trevor Lawrence is available next season. I've seen a ton of people saying the Patriots won't take a QB this year because they want Lawrence next year.

Big problem though. New England isn't going to be bad in 2020. They still have an elite defense and enough weapons on offense not to completely fall apart. Oh, and Belichick as the head coach.

Maybe they won't be great in 2020, but don't expect them to pile up the losses. They'll still be fighting for a playoff spot (especially now with extra teams making the playoffs).

Lawrence very well could be the first overall pick. So New England isn't getting him unless they trade a ton of assets to get that pick.

Love is extremely talented, but a little under the radar. No one is expecting him to come in and dominate immediately. With the slightly lower expectations, Belichick won't be pressured into starting him immediately.

That means he can take his time and work his magic on Love. When he's ready, New England can plug him in. Then they have their quarterback for the next 20 years.

It's perfect.
