There is plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady this offseason. Actor Ben Affleck is doing his part to make sure he stays in town.

Brady is set to test the waters of free agency for the first time in his career. Ben Affleck said during an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up,” that the six-time Super Bowl winner has been coy with him and fellow actor Matt Damon through text:

“Me and Matt texted him, and said, ‘What’s the deal? You going or you staying?’ And this is what we got back: an emoji,” Ben Affleck said, doing his best impression of the shrug emoji (🤷‍♂️).

Ben Affleck added that he is among those wishing that Brady will retire in New England.

“I hope he stays. I think he’s fabulous,” Affleck said. “By the same token, he’s given up a lot of money to play for that franchise over the years that he well deserves. The New England Patriots didn’t sacrifice any money winning all those Super Bowls, selling all those tickets, selling all that merchandise. I pray and hope that he stays. It would break my heart if he left.”

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have never been shy about expressing their Patriots fandom as Boston natives. Unfortunately, it appears not even their A-list status could gain some insight on Brady's plans for the offseason.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Affleck's comments regarding Brady's willingness to sacrifice big-money contracts in order to give the Patriots the best chance at winning a Super Bowl. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the front office now plans to do the same in order to ensure that he stays.

Boston has already parted ways with one superstar after the Red Sox traded outfielder Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brady leaving town would undoubtedly deal another crushing blow to the city.
