Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs just finished the best year of his NFL career, but it turns out he almost got sent to the New England Patriots.

Diggs spent his entire career with the Minnesota Vikings before being traded to the Bills last offseason, and he went on to lead the NFL in receptions with 127. He also had 1,535 receiving yards with eight scores, quickly becoming quarterback Josh Allen's sidekick in the dangerous Buffalo offense.

However, the Patriots almost traded for Diggs, which would have certainly made the Bills season different .

The Bills and Patriots were the final suitors for the talented receiver when the Vikings were looking to trade him, and Bill Belichick and company probably aren't too thrilled that they lost him to their AFC East counterpart.

“Sources say that when the Minnesota Vikings were poised to deal star receiver Stefon Diggs on March 16 in a blockbuster trade that included a first-round pick, it was the Bills and New England Patriots as the two final suitors,” Ian Rapoport wrote on NFL.com.

“Before Minnesota received four picks — including a first-round pick — from Buffalo for the playmaker, the Vikings called New England to give them a chance to match or improve the offer. When Bill Belichick and the Patriots declined, Diggs was off to the Bills.”

For Stefon Diggs, he is probably extremely happy that he got sent to the Bills instead, as the future is brighter than ever in Buffalo.

After the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, Diggs was the last Bills player on the field as he watched the Chiefs ceremony.

New England brought in Cam Newton after Tom Brady left to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and maybe Newton would've had a much better season if Diggs was playing with him.

However, that didn't happen, and Newton is set to leave via free agency, so the Pats will almost certainly be hitting the market for not just a quarterback, but also a wide receiver.
