The New England Patriots have a big question mark under center right now, but that doesn't mean they are going to turn to Cam Newton to try and solve those problems.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots have not shown any interest in signing Newton, who hit the free-agent market after being released by the Carolina Panthers last month.

New England's quarterback situation got dicey at the beginning of free agency, when the Pats lost legendary signal-caller Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As a result, the Patriots were instantly tagged as a potential destination for Newton, but currently it seems as if New England would prefer to roll with Jarrett Stidham, who is preparing to enter his second season.

Newton spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Panthers after being drafted No. 1 overall by the franchise in 2011.

It didn't take long for the Auburn product to establish himself as one of the league's most exciting young stars, as he made the Pro Bowl during his rookie campaign.

Newton had his best season four years later, when he threw for 35 touchdowns and ran for 10 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance, a First-Team All-Pro selection and an MVP award. Most importantly, Newton led Carolina to a 15-1 record and a trip to the Super Bowl.

However, since then, injuries and declining performance have derailed Newton's career. Since the end of 2016, the soon-to-be-31-year-old has undergone a pair of shoulder procedures, and earlier this offseason, he had surgery to repair a foot issue that limited him to two games in 2019.
