Always one for a redemption story, Bill Belichick once again finds himself in the midst of yet another enigmatic superstar's crosshairs. Upon passing through waivers on Tuesday, Beckham is now a free agent for the first time in his entire career. He has multiple teams to choose from, but time is not on his side. He needs to sign quickly if he is to play (and get paid) on Sunday (or Monday). the Patriots surely know that and decided to get out ahead of everyone in an attempt to tie themselves to the superstar before anyone else.

It is good recruiting for the spring, if nothing else, as Beckham is likely to be back on the market after the Super Bowl. The Patriots could still bring him over at that point and the talks right now could possibly just be greasing of the wheels for that eventual marriage. But maybe it is more than that, as the Patriots have the look of a contender in the AFC if they are able to figure out their question marks at wide receiver.

The most likely scenario, however sad for Patriots fans, is that Beckham and Belichick are just doing their due diligence and respecting that a great of the game is available and willing to talk to them. The marriage does not make sense right now. If Beckham wants to win a championship, like he says he does, he will surely end up with the Rams, Chiefs, or Packers. If he is not committed to winning a ring and just wants the ball, look for him to go down to New Orleans or Miami in a shocker.
