A reunion looks unlikely now. There have been rumors all off-season about quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo going back to the New England Patriots but it seems unlikely now. With the San Francisco 49ers drafting a quarterback with the third pick they have been rumored to be shopping Jimmy Garoppolo. He was hurt during most of the 2020 season and it seems San Francisco is ready to move on.

What does this mean for the Patriots? Well, they are clearly still in the quarterback market even after re-signing Cam Newton and they have a few options. With Aaron Rodgers potentially available Bill Belichick may make an offer for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Another option would be trading up for a quarterback in the first round of the draft. With many great options in the draft, the Patriots would have a few options. Justin Fields seems like a player that would fit very well in New England. With the Panthers listening to offers at the 8th pick, that could be a potential solution on who will be the future hall of fame quarterback.

With Trey Lance, Justin Fields, or Mac Jones potentially falling, a trade-up makes too much sense. Depending on who the 49ers select, the Patriots should look to make a move from there. The 49ers are currently projected to take Trey Lance or Mac Jones. If Fields is available, it makes a lot of sense for them to trade up.

Whatever the case may be, the Patriots need to make a move for the quarterback of the future.
