Following the loss in Super Bowl 52 against the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots Pro Bowl tight Rob Gronkowski had voiced much uncertainty regarding his future in the NFL. This had led to the rumor mill to churn that Gronkowski could be involved in trade rumors because of his lack of commitment to playing next season despite having two more years left on his deal.

All of this talk has since quieted down with Gronkowski being back in the fold for at least the 2018 season. However, there are reports that the Patriots had reportedly had offers from both the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans but those talks didn't go far as Tom Brady allegedly threatened to retire that the team has quickly denied, according to Adam Kurkjian of the Boston Herald.

There has been some uneasiness with the franchise from Brady that could be equated to Gronkowski also holding a similar sentiment that led to him going several weeks before recommitting to the team.

Meanwhile, it is reasonable to believe that head coach Bill Belichick got into contact with both the 49ers and Titans. It's no secret the strong level of connection that he has with Kyle Shanahan that led to him moving Jimmy Garoppolo to San Francisco before last season's trade deadline. Titans new head coach Mike Vrabel used to be a longtime player under Belichick in New England that could lend well to the two working out a trade despite being in the same conference.

At this point, it's hard to pinpoint whether this was truly the case involving Gronkowski, but it does suggest that things are not all even keel on both sides.
