The New England Patriots were unable to reach an agreement with Tom Brady this offseason, leading to him signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In an article for ESPN, Seth Wickersham revealed that Brady and Bill Belichick had a ‘blowup' over his contract in 2017.

After seeing Brady choose to leave the team he spent 20 seasons with, everyone is wondering why he made the decision to do so. While there were plenty of remarkable moments between Brady and Belichick, they weren't always on the same page.

Back in 2017, Brady made it clear to the Patriots that he wanted to play the rest of his career with the organization. Therefore, he was seeking to receive a long-term contract that would be completed in his mid-40s.

On the other hand, Belichick seemed to be hesitant on giving Brady a long-term deal as he continued to age. As a result, the two were at a disagreement and Brady wanted some clarity from owner Robert Kraft.

But after speaking to Kraft, Brady still didn't feel the assurance that he would prefer to have for the future of his career. Even if the Patriots offered him an extension, it wasn't one that he was fond of.

Provided that, Brady and Belichick's altercation was likely just one of the reasons that led to his departure. For 20 seasons, Brady and Belichick cemented themselves as the best head coach and quarterback duo in NFL history. With that being said, the writing was on the wall for them to go their separate ways, beginning in 2017.
