New England Patriots running back Sony Michel appears to have fresh legs after undergoing surgery in May.

Michel, 25, played in his first practice last week after coming off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. According to Patriots running backs coach Ivan Fears, Michel looks good and isn't showing any signs of slowing down from his foot surgery.

“He’s got fresh legs,” Fears said about Michel, via SB Nation's Pats Pulpit. “We have to beat on him a little bit more first, and then we’ll see what he has going. He’s coming back off after missing the first two-and-a-half, three weeks of training camp. Hell yeah, he’s going to be fresh and quick. His weight is good, no doubt. We’ve worked hard on that. He looks good. He doesn’t show any signs of slowing down from the injury, anything along those lines.”

Michel underwent foot surgery in May to help relieve discomfort he was experiencing during the 2019 season. However, despite the discomfort he was having, Michell still had a spectacular season with the Patriots. The third-year back finished the season off with 912 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games.

It's still unclear if Michel will be ready for the Patriots first regular-season game on Sept. 13 against the Miami Dolphins. After all, Michel missed the first three weeks of training camp, so he may still may need to get in shape.

Nevertheless, the Patriots currently have one of the deepest running back groups in the NFL, so it's not a big loss if he misses Week 1.
