The New England Patriots are already off and running against the rival New York Jets. Coming as absolutely no surprise, it has been the Patriots' defense that has gotten things going for New England early as veteran defensive back Devin McCourty immediately picked off Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

With the Patriots already leading the Jets by the score of 7-0 thanks to a quick rushing touchdown from running back Sony Michel, McCourty helped put his team up 10-0 in the blink of an eye. After the McCourty interception — his league-leading fifth pick of the season — the Patriots tacked on a field goal en route to making it a two-possession game in East Rutherford.

Thanks to McCourty's latest interception, the Patriots now have a whopping 15 picks through the team's first seven games of the 2019 regular season.

Not only that, but McCourty has his most interceptions in a single season since all the way back in 2012, when he also produced five interceptions.

While the Patriots' defense continues to roll, quarterback Tom Brady and the team's offense hasn't been too shabby either. Brady has already found his favorite target in wide receiver Julian Edelman several times as Jets head coach Adam Gase knew exactly what to expect — though that doesn't mean he can stop it…

Gase spoke of the difficulty of slowing down the slot receiver.

“He’s a tough guy to game plan for, you’ve just got to be ready for a ton of stuff,’’ Gase recently said of Edelman, via The Boston Globe. “To me, I’ve seen him play so much and he’s worked over some of the teams that I’ve been on. He’s always been a guy that we’ve had to game plan for. He’s always been a guy that we’ve had to try to contain. I don’t know if I’ve ever really been a part of it to where we walked away from a game and been like, ‘Well, we shut him down,’ because that’s just not going to happen.’’

The Patriots are now well on their way to a perfect 7-0 start with the Jets primed to plummet to 1-5.
