Longtime NBA big man and future Hall of Famer Pau Gasol will be the subject of an upcoming docuseries following the final months of his basketball career, per Variety.

The docuseries, directed by Oriol Bosch, will be four episodes long and will follow Gasol as he finishes out his professional career and prepares for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It has been in production since the fall of 2019, with expectations for a release this fall.

According to Variety, the docuseries will focus on Gasol's struggles grappling with “physical scars, emotional challenges, personal legacy, as well as new family commitments.”

Gasol said he hopes the series can provide some insight into his personal head space:

“There comes a time when a player’s professional career must come to an end,” Gasol said via Variety. “It won’t be a happy time for me, but you have to be prepared for it as there will be a huge gap that I will have to fill. Hopefully this series helps shine a light on my state of mind as I contemplate what’s next.”

There had been some rumblings Gasol would look to make a comeback especially after the Los Angeles Lakers signed his brother, Marc, in free agency last fall.

However, Gasol instead announced in February he was signing with FC Barcelona in Spain, the club where he first got his start as a heralded international talent. Gasol has yet to take the floor for FC Barcelona this summer, but is expected to join the team in the near future as he ramps up preparations for the Olympics.

Gasol's storied career might be coming to an end, but the docuseries should afford fans the opportunity to look back at everything he accomplished and see just how much he meant to the game of basketball.
