The Paul George saga might finally come to a close.

The Boston Celtics are one of the top contenders for the Pacers forward. On Draft day there were many false flag reports of George being traded to the Celtics for guards Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart and the 3rd pick in the draft.

However, in an interesting turn of events, the Celtics might get the superstar forward only if they sign Jazz forward Gordon Hayward. Hayward has been connected with the Celtics since the start of this season. With that possibly in the works, Zach Lowe from ESPN points out that George could sign a three-year extension after arriving in Boston.

With these two forwards, both All-Stars in 2017, the Celtics could truly challenge the Cavaliers‘ domination in the East. The glaring issue would be salaries, since there would be three maximum contracts on the books in Boston. One more issue might be the need to assemble this team.

The Warriors, with how they are put together, will most probably, barring any injuries or surprising FA departures or trades, dominate the league for years to come. In that case, assembling a win-now team rather than building for the future would probably be the wrong move to do.

The Celtics own a high number of future draft selections and they have young studs in forwards Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, both third selections in past drafts. Trading one or both, along with future selections, for someone who will not be as good when the Warriors' championship window closes, would not be a smart move, at least not for the Celtics who have the unique chance to be long-term contenders.
