Paul Pierce is among the three remaining stars from the old generation, along with Dirk Nowitzki and Vince Carter. All future Hall of Famers.

While the two aforementioned names do not have a timetable on their retirement plans, Pierce has already stated that this will be his final year of playing in the NBA.

His stellar 18-year career may be highlighted by his 2008 championship as a member of the Boston Celtics at the expense of none else but the Los Angeles Lakers, who also boasted of a recently retired great in Kobe Bryant.

While Bryant’s road to retirement became a farewell tour, complete with every tribute opposing home teams could have possibly thrown at him, Pierce’s final season will be more lowkey, according to Dan Woike of The Orange County Register.

Pierce, who plans to retire at the end of the season, said he didn’t think he would have a “farewell tour” around the league this season. He did say, with a laugh, he would accept going-away gifts from any team that wants to offer.

It doesn’t come as a surprise. Pierce isn’t as celebrated as Bryant and his demeanour also doesn’t require a similar roadshow. However, expect an extremely emotional and memorable show of appreciation when the Los Angeles Clippers pay a visit to Beantown.

Pierce played 15 seasons in Boston, and will go down as among the storied franchise’s all-time greats.
