New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will finally make his regular season debut on Wednesday at home against the San Antonio Spurs.

All eyes are going to be on Williamson for the rest of the season in New Orleans. Every shot, mistake and quote will be dissected by pundits since Zion was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry, however, is trying to take some pressure off of Williamson. The 65-year-old veteran coach says he doesn't really care if Williamson plays well or struggles to begin his NBA career and just wants the youngster to have fun playing the sport he loves.

“I don’t care if you play well or don’t play well,” Gentry told Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. “In this business right here, you’re gonna have really good games and you’re gonna struggle some. It’s just a fact. Look at Kobe [Bryant], what he averaged his first year [7.6 points per game]. And he shot two airballs in the playoffs [in 1997]. It’s a transition. It’s gonna take some time.”

In his lone season at Duke, Williamson put on an absolute show en route to establishing himself as the best prospect in the class of 2019. The forward averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 68.0 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 64.0 percent from the free-throw line.

There hasn’t been this much hype surrounding a young player since LeBron James came into the league back in 2003. Pelicans fans can’t wait to see Zion Williamson play alongside Jrue Holiday, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and the rest of the core in New Orleans.

The Pelicans are 17-27 on the season. They are in 12th place in the Western Conference standings and just three games back of the San Antonio Spurs for the eighth and final playoff spot.
