New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry provided an update on Derrick Favors' status ahead of Wednesday night's road game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Gentry is hoping Favors will be available to play in Wednesday's matchup. Favors has been with his family following the death of his mother, according to reports, and he also has been dealing with an injury. The former No. 3 overall pick rejoined his teammates over the weekend, but he did not play in Monday night's 105-103 loss to the Detroit Pistons:

Though he'll likely be eased back into the rotation, the fact that Favors is returning to the lineup is great news for New Orleans. He has played in nine games this season (seven starts), racking up averages of 8.3 points on 62.1 percent shooting from the field, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 21.0 minutes per outing.

The Pelicans (6-18) have struggled to find a rhythm through the early stages of this season. Injuries have played a role, to be sure. Rookie Zion Williamson is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery and won't be ready to play until sometime later this month (at the earliest). To be clear, though, there is no timetable set in stone for his return.

New Orleans will look to snap a nine-game losing streak in Wednesday night's game against the Bucks. Tip-off inside Fiserv Forum is set for 9:30 p.m. ET, with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.
