Anthony Davis has had a roller coaster ride over the past month. He publicly requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, which eventually led to a dysfunctional relationship between him and the franchise. The Pels planned to shut him down for the remainder of the season, something that the NBA did not allow, and now he's playing under 25 minutes for a team that has no clear direction.

After the Pelicans' 125-119 loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, Davis said that everything that happens off the court doesn't matter to him as long as he's able to play basketball.

“I'm fine mentally. Actually, great. I'm great mentally. I love playing basketball..I don't let nobody steal my joy. No matter what it is. When I step in between the lines to play basketball I'm happy.”

Davis scored 22 points and eight rebounds while playing for only 21 minutes in the game.

The Lakers pursued Davis following his public demand for a trade, offering almost half of the roster to the Pelicans in their hopes of acquiring him. Nothing materialized eventually, and he's now playing out the remainder of the season with the team.

New Orleans will most likely trade Davis this summer, and one of the teams that will aggressively pursue him is the Boston Celtics.

However, it is clear that AD's mind is solely focused on basketball right now, and rightfully so. There's no way for him to move out of the Pelicans at the moment, so it's better for him to put all his energy and effort on that one thing he can control.

Playing basketball.
