March 15th 2018 will now always be remembered as a day the NBA lost a good friend. New Orleans Pelicans owner Tom Benson passed away on Thursday March 15th at the age of 90 and was the inspirational for all. He was in the midst of changing around the Pelicans franchise and fans were always happy to see Benson pay tribute to his Pelicans.

Of course when the heartfelt news hit the locker room of the Players, it was an emotional roller coaster. These players get attached to the Owner because they are one of the ones who are giving them a chance to compete in the NBA. Fellow Pelicans star Anthony Davis did not hold back on his tribute one bit.

“Incredibly sad news yesterday to hear of the passing of Mr Benson. Mr Benson has meant so much to this city & to my career in NOLA. Mr B & his wife Gayle treated me like family since I arrived & I'm forever indebted to them for their kindness & generosity. He will be missed! #RIP”

Benson acquired the team in 2012, and since him taking over the Pelicans have reshaped the NBA. New Orleans has hosted the All-Star Game twice and made it to the postseason once. Benson was a family man and made sure everyone had a smile on their face whether it be the players, fans or family.

It was a combo deal deal back in 2012 as Benson began his first journey as owner of the Pelicans and made his first splash with drafting Anthony Davis. The No. 1 overall pick spent the past six years getting to know the Owner who everybody will miss.
