New Orleans Pelicans small forward Brandon Ingram and his family donated 982 pairs of Adidas shoes to UNC Lenoir Health Care employees on Tuesday.

This is the largest single gift ever received by the employees at Lenoir.

This is a great gesture by Ingram and his family. The Pelicans star wanted to recognize those heroes on the frontlines of the COVID 19 pandemic. The Kinston-native will never forget where he came from.

Before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March, Ingram was averaging 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Pelicans. The 22-year-old, who becomes a restricted free agent in the offseason, was also shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Multiple reports have said that New Orleans is expected to match any offer Ingram receives in restricted free agency. The Pelicans are planning to build the franchise around Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball and Jrue Holiday in the post-Anthony Davis era.

Ingram, who was the second overall pick in the 2016 draft out of Duke, has career NBA averages of 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 246 regular-season games with the Los Angeles Lakers and Pelicans. The talented scorer will try and help the Pels make the 2020 playoffs once the seeding games start this week.

However, the Big Easy squad has to play better than the Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers, the two teams ahead of them in the Western Conference standings.
