New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado has been a bright spot for the team so far. The undrafted guard has quickly become a fan favorite, due to many reasons. One of these reasons is his “signature” move of sorts, where he sneaks behind an opposing guard and steals the ball in the backcourt. The Pelicans announcers have given this a legendary nickname: the “Grand Theft Alvarado”.

During Game 1 of the Pelicans' series against the Suns, Jose Alvarado tried to pull this off against Chris Paul, of all people. Paul was prepared, and just simply waved the undrafted guard off, much to the chagrin of fans. However
in Game 4, Alvarado got to exact his revenge on Paul. (via ClutchPoints)

There it is! A shorter version of the “Grand Theft Alvarado”!

Memes aside, Alvarado has been absolutely phenomenal for the Pelicans in the postseason. The diminutive guard has had a big impact on the game, thanks to his defense and timely shot-making. He very nearly led the team to a Game 3 win a few days ago, but came up short. Now, he was able to get the job done.

The Pelicans absolutely flummoxed the Suns in Game 4 of the series. Willie Green's decision to put rookie Herb Jones on Paul finally paid off, as he was able to smother the star point guard the entire game. Because of their defensive efforts, they were able to tie the series at 2-2.

Despite the series tie, though, one can argue that the momentum is all on the Pelicans' side now. A shut-down effort on a title contending team will pump up the players. Add to that Devin Booker's injury
and we might be looking at a potential upset.
