New Orleans Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson just earned a small yet important victory in his legal battle pertaining to the alleged improper benefits he received prior to signing with Duke in 2018.

A report by the New York Post states that Williamson's camp has succeeded in blocking a lawsuit filed by his former marketing agent, which looks to require Zion to answer questions pertaining to the said allegations.

The order Thursday granted Williamson a stay and paused proceedings in the lawsuit from Prime Sports Marketing and company president Gina Ford, whose attorneys must respond within 10 days.

This is great news for Williamson, as this decision is one that goes in his favor. The pause in the proceedings means that Zion will avoid — at least for now — the need to take the stand and explain his side of the story.

Then again, if you think about it, this does seem like somewhat of an admission of guilt. If he truly did not receive any improper benefits, then surely he would have nothing to hide. This means that he can clear his name while speaking under oath.

It is also possible, though, that Williamson is just trying to get as far away as possible from this PR nightmare. There may actually be no truth to his former agent's claims, but the fact that the case progresses in court causes a big hit to Zion's reputation, as well as his brand.

One thing is clear, though: controversy seems to be something that will be hounding the 19-year-old for years to come. Such is the prize of fame, I guess.
