New Orleans Pelicans All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins stated last week that he wanted to face the Sacramento Kings in the first game of the 2017-18 season.

Although Cousins didn't exactly get his wish, the Pelicans are set to take on Kings in an early-season matchup in a nationally televised game.

There is a lot of personal emotions attached to this game for Cousins given the nature of his departure from the organization immediately after the All-Star game last season. He had also come out to state that he was treated like cattle by management that has only amplified up more bitter feelings about how his tenure ended abruptly.

Cousins spent his first six and half seasons in the league with the Kings, which was littered with dysfunction throughout the organization. It also created a strong stigma around the team that only further worsened their public image while contributing to the now decade long absence from the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Cousins now finds himself in an intriguing destination playing alongside fellow All-Star big man Anthony Davis with eyes toward securing a playoff spot this upcoming season. There are many different angles that can be taken with the situation, but all of it can be narrowed down to Cousins' first time back to Sacramento on an opposing team.
