New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis met with executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin on Wednesday in Los Angeles and the two are expected to meet again, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Griffin is trying to convince Davis to change his mind about his trade request. AD can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020 once he declines his 2020-21 player option.

Griffin is a smart guy. If he gets a sense Davis still wants to be moved, he'll honor Davis' trade request. The Pelicans can't afford to lose Davis for nothing in 2020.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are the three teams expected to reach out to Griffin and the Pelicans this summer to discuss a Davis trade. The Lakers tried to acquire Davis at the February trade deadline, but ex-general manager Dell Demps didn't want to make a deal at the time.

The Pelicans won the draft lottery and are going to draft Duke high-flyer Zion Williamson with the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, which is on June 20. Griffin is likely telling Davis that a “Big 3” of him, Williamson and Jrue Holiday can do damage next season.
