New Orleans Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin hasn't engaged Anthony Davis trade talks with rival teams yet, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Griffin is determined to keep Davis with the Pelicans by changing AD's mind about wanting to be traded. New Orleans won the draft lottery and will select Duke star Zion Williamson in the 2019 NBA Draft, which is on June 20.

New Orleans could have eager trade suitors — the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks — should Griffin engage trade talks, but so far that hasn't happened, sources said. Griffin has been determined to make a case to Davis over time.

Davis made his trade request after the Pelicans fall out of playoff pursuit. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He's a six-time All-Star and a three-time first-team All-NBA selection.

Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 blocks this season in 56 games. The big man has only won one playoff series with the Pelicans. AD can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020 once he declines his 2020-21 player option. He first requested a trade from New Orleans in late January, but the team elected to hold onto him past the trade deadline.

Griffin has a good relationship with Davis' agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. Paul, of course, represents Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who Griffin knows well from both of their days with the Cleveland cavaliers.

It's believed Davis prefers to be traded to the Lakers, although some reports have said AD wouldn't mind playing for the New York Knicks, either.
