Today is not a good day for New Orleans sports fans with the Saints having their graves dug by Stefon Diggs in the NFC Divisional Round. It’s not going to make the pain of losing to the Minnesota Vikings go away completely for these fans, but the New Orleans Pelicans’ 123-118 overtime road win over the New York Knicks — that saw a career night from DeMarcus Cousins — should at least make them feel better.

Pelicans big man Anthony Davis dropped 48 points in the win, while his frontcourt partner DeMarcus Cousins added 15 points. While Cousins’ points total was not something to make people pick up their jaws from the floor, he nonetheless had 16 rebounds, three blocks, and seven steals.

Cousins' seven steals were the most he has had in a game so far in his career. His previous career high in steals was six, which he did six times, per Basketball Reference.

His great performance on the defensive end of the floor, more than made up for his atrocious 4-of-16 shooting from the field that included a goose egg from beyond the arc despite taking five attempts.

With the victory, the Pelicans are now on a mini two-game win streak. They have also won three of their last four games — a great momentum to have heading into a marquee matchup with the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics this coming Tuesday.

Cousins and Davis are big threats for the Celtics, who need to come up with a great game plan, as they try to stop the two Pelicans biggies from wreaking havoc the same way the duo did versus the Knicks.

On the season, DeMarcus Cousins is averaging 25.5 points, 12.6 rebounds (team high), 5.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
